Father Francis Browne, influential Irish Jesuit |
Here are the facts as presented by Titanic Universe...
First and foremost, it is known that many wealthy figureheads of the time — all of whom the Jesuit society wanted dead — were on the ship. Among these figures were John Jacob Astor, Isador Straus (head of the Macy's department store chain at the time), and Ben Guggenheim. Between the three was a total wealth equivalent to 500 million US Dollars. Today their combined total worth would weigh around one million US Dollars.
The Jesuit captain, Edward Smith, was a veteran of the seas. And, even so, he recklessly plunged into the ice fields. Not to mention his direct violation of maritime safety: trying to dodge the iceberg. According to the laws of sailing, one is to meet danger head-on. In fact, many claim that the rip in the hull caused by the glancing blow to the shit (resulting in the sinking of the ship) could have been prevented by running into the ice head-first; theoretically a head-on approach would have caused minimal damage and meant that the ship would have been able to stay afloat.
The flares on the ship were also called into question. To coincide with the name of the Titanic's creator, the White Star Line, it fired white flares. Standards at the time, however, said that red flares were to be used for emergencies. As such, the Californian captain disregarded the flares he saw as non-emergencies. (The Californian was brought under scrutiny by many who claim the ship — which at one point could have been as little as six miles away from the floundering Titanic — could have intervened and saved more lives.)
A less substantial and disproved claim by other websites alleges that a box containing a five shot 33 Pinfire Derrineger Revolver flare gun was removed from the ship by Titanic's crew. The gun named, however, wouldn't have fit into the box flaunted by these sites. Historians believe that the absence of a flare gun is more likely due to the White Star's destruction of evidence (as they tried to cover their tracks to avoid monetary loss).
Believers in the theory claim that the Jesuits were created solely to become the most powerful organization in the world. When they failed to acquire a large sum of money (supposedly to be used in taking over the Federal Reserve an waging war) in a deal they resorted to revenge. This elaborate revenge plot involved the organization inviting many of the wealthiest figures of the early twentieth century to board the doomed Titanic, employing the devoted Captain Edward Smith to sink the ship.
The final point made by believers is far more substantial. This point involves the fact that the most powerful Jesuit of Ireland boarded the Titanic. Father Francis Browne (seen in picture) boarded the ship but departed at Southampton. Browne's famous pictures of the Titanic's interior are now some of the few remaining pictures of the ship which survive now. Conspiracy believers say Browne boarded the ship, captured images of the to-be victims, informed Captain Smith of the plot, and made his leave.
